Wichita, KS: The Wichita Force, the community’s longest-running professional indoor football team, today proudly announced its acceptance into the Arena Football Association (AFA).

“We are very excited to welcome the Wichita Force into the Arena Football Association,” said Leif Kertis, Director of Expansion for the AFA. “Behind the leadership of the ownership group for the Wichita Force, the Force has established itself as one of the most respected franchises in Arena Football and we are confident that they’ll be a tremendous addition to the AFA.”

FOR MEDIA INFORMATION ONLY: A formal press event welcoming the Force into the Arena Football Association will take place tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 8) at 1 p.m. at the Petroleum Club in downtown Wichita (900 N. Broadway, 9th floor) in partnership with WIBA, following their regular monthly luncheon. AFA co-Founder Doug Freeman also is expected to be in attendance. The press event will begin at 1:00 p.m. sharp. A buffet style lunch will be provided to members of the media who arrive in advance.

Based in Texas and built upon the pillars of diversity, equity and inclusion, the six-team Arena Football Association (AFA) was founded by African American entrepreneurs Douglas C. Freeman, Maximillian L. Hamilton, and Fredrick Smith. The League made its debut as a five-team league in June 2021, and it has since expanded to seven teams for the 2022 season with franchises located in Texas, Mississippi, and Kansas. AFA teams include the West Texas (Odessa) Warbirds, the Texas (Houston) Jets, the Rio Grande Valley Dorados, the North Texas (Ft. Worth) Bulls, the Amarillo Venom, the Magnolia State (Jackson, MS) Spartans, and of course now the Wichita (Kansas) Force.

The Wichita Force franchise was formed in 2014. During the past eight years, the Force has won the hearts of Wichita and surrounding communities. The team has attracted nearly 6,000 fans for its home games, and it won a league championship in 2016.

“We are very excited to start a new chapter in the history of Wichita Force football by joining Arena Football Association,” exclaimed Jeff Martin, Managing Partner for the Force. “The AFA has a sound business model and they’ve brought together a tremendous group of teams and owners, and we are very thankful for the opportunity to compete in the AFA. Our fans are in for a treat.”
